Collection: Mary Norsted

After a successful and varied career in
nursing, Mary decided to get back in touch with her artistry after her two sons had grown. She created a work studio in the garage of her and her husband’s small cabin in northern Minnesota. Mary took some classes on making pebble stone jewelry at the North House Folk School, and she was hooked.

The name of her jewelry business, “Handlaget,” means “handmade” in Norwegian. Her pieces showcase the elements of the natural world, using materials such as Lake Superior stones, birch bark, and sea glass. Mary also makes colorful pieces with resins that are inlaid in silver, copper, and other materials.

In addition to necklaces, earrings, and rings, Mary also makes hand-braided leather bracelets in varying sizes that appeal to both men and women.
