Collection: Harriet Campe

Harriet Campe grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota and graduated from Bemidji State with majors in biology and chemistry. She worked in research labs for many years.

Harriet took up pottery as a hobby over thirty years ago. For twenty-plus years, she has taught studio pottery, ceramic science, Asian brushwork, and Japanese gift wrapping at the Edina Art Center.

After a few years working in stoneware, Harriet switched to porcelain. She paints most of her throw pots in Asian style with colored slips. She also uses rolled slabs to hand-build some of the pots. Harriet has recently started
using ceramic stains to color her porcelain creations. Her pots are food safe and can go in the microwave and dishwasher.

“It is, despite its delicate appearance, exceptionally strong. It is a beautiful, elegant medium.”
